Community Enterprise for Success

Fully funded business advice and training for VCOs in Solihull

  • Solihull Community Enterprise for Success programme enters second year
  • 54 VCOs supported to increase sustainability in year one
  • Development in Social Enterprise CIC and The BEST Network awarded year two contract, offering bespoke business support, enterprise awareness and sector specific workshops to *eligible organisations.

Community enterprises and voluntary organisations in Solihull are being encouraged to take advantage of a new package of support interventions available under the Community Enterprise for Success programme – part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Solihull MBC.

Expert help to develop and increase income generation and earning potential is available from Development in Social Enterprise (DISE) and the BEST Network, the partnership charged with providing tailored business advice, generalist and specialist, for existing Voluntary and Community organisations looking to become more enterprising.

With encouraging results in the first year of programme delivery, which engaged over 120 people and recorded in excess of 350 hours of face-to-face client time, Dave Lane chief of DISE said: “We are delighted to be progressing our achievements and relationships with clients in year one, and aim to provide even greater value this year to help charities and community enterprises improve their ‘business health’ so they become more robust.

“There is real potential for local community enterprises to play a dynamic role in the Smith’s Wood and Craig Croft Village Centre areas, where we will be on the ground running enterprise awareness sessions, workshops and delivering tailored advice covering everything from feasibility analysis to setting up trading arms, procurement readiness to measuring social value, understanding routes to market and getting to grips with social media.”

A new project website – – provides full details of the programme, events and booking details, as well as useful resources including exclusive access to a self-help Community Enterprise Toolkit, consisting of 12 modules, which was developed for the programme by DISE and brings together the best online business resources in one place. A monthly newsletter will profile local case studies and keep the sector updated on business development opportunities.
