Legal update – Pay

Here is an update from Sandy Adirondack on recent changes regarding Pay.

(January 2015)

NJC pay scales for 2014-16

For organisations whose salaries are contractually linked to NJC (National Joint Council for Government Services) scale column points, new pay rates for employees on SCP 5-49 are in effect from 1 January. In addition, a non-consolidated payment should have been made in December to employees who were on SCP 5-49 on 1 December, with another non-consolidated payment to be made in April.

2015 living wage

Living Wage Foundation announced in November that the living wage for 2015 is £9.85 for London and £7.85 for the rest of the UK.

Senior staff pay levels

NCVO and ACEVO recommendations on setting pay levels for chief executives and other senior staff.

Permitted work

From 1 October 2014 the weekly earnings limit for permitted work, for people on employment support allowance and incapacity benefit, went up from £101 to £104.

Accommodation as part of employment package

A bill currently before Parliament could require employers who offer residential accommodation as part of an employment package to offer a financial alternative, if the accommodation is not required for the work.
