Key Points of Wider Interest Discussed:
1. Combined authority update
The super economic plan “Making our Mark” has been launched. It is very short and easy to read and lays out what the plans are: https://westmidlandscombinedauthority.org.uk/media/1203/shortversion.pdf
The Investment prospectus for the West Midlands has also been launched.
Bob Sleigh is the Chair of the actual Combined Authority (he previously chaired the shadow board). A cabinet has been created which is chaired by Bob Sleigh, with areas of responsibility assigned out.
The mayor elections will be in May 2017. There was no indication that these would slip due to the Brexit issues. The Combined authority are now moving into the second devolution deal due to go to the government inOctober.
The headquarters of combined authority is at the former centro building in Summer Row and all the staff have been TUPE’d over.
2. Solihull Strategic engagement forum
We discussed and agreed the terms of reference for this engagement forum which is due to meet twice a year. I will draw from the existing strategic groups and its basic purpose is to share information across the groups, identify gaps and ensure that everyone is working to the same agena.
3. Adverse Childhood Experience
Chief Inspector Dave Twyford gave an overview of the impact that negative experinces have on childhood and how more than 4 ACE’s can impact significantly on their adult life. It supports the prevention agend and early intervention
4. Strategic Transformation Programme
The STP has been submitted. There are four areas of focus:
- Community services
- Secondary and Tertiary services
- Maternity and newborn
- Mental health
There remains a significant financial gap.
