Legal update: Pay, apprenticeship levy, tax-free childcare

Tax-free childcare

Government confirmed in the spring budget on 8 March that tax-free accounts to help working parents pay for childcare will start being rolled out in April.

Apprenticeship levy

Starts 6 April: Fewer than 2% of employers will have to pay it, but it will affect how apprenticeships are funded for all employers.

Unfair dismissal awards

For unfair dismissals on or after 6 April, maximum basic award goes up from £14,370 to £14,760 and maximum compensatory award goes up from £78,962 to £80,541.

Statutory redundancy pay

For redundancies on or after 6 April, “weekly pay” for the purpose of calculating statutory redundancy pay goes up from £479 to £489.
