Food Waste Reduction Fund – WRAP

A new £500,000 fund has been launched to support the redistribution of quality surplus food to people in need throughout England.  Not for Profit organisations that redistribute food to people in need can apply for grants of £20,000 – £75,000 for new pilot projects to be evaluated and, if successful, replicated and implemented more widely.

Organisations applying will need to demonstrate they plan to work in partnership with food businesses such as retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, food service and logistics companies.

The Food Waste Reduction Fund is administered by sustainability experts WRAP. The fund aims to help organisations to overcome barriers to the redistribution of food such as:

  • Training and education
  • Infrastructure support – for equipment such as new vehicles to transport more types of food
  • Forming collaborative partnerships
  • Communication, logistics and technology.

The application process will operate in two stages:

Stage 1 – Expression of Interest: At this stage we require an overview of the project and its potential for impact.  EOIs will need to be submitted by the 30th March 2018 and will be reviewed and shortlisted by an assessment panel.

Stage 2 – Full application: Applicants with shortlisted EOIs will be invited to submit their full application during the week commencing 16 April 2018.  Those applications received by the deadline of 11 May 2018 that provide the required level of information will be reviewed by the panel on a competitive basis and awarded grant funding until the budget is expended.  Successful applicants will be notified during week commencing 28 May 2018.
