Safer Recruitment

Do you recruit into the children and young people’s workforce?

All those organisations and individuals who work with children and young people, or are involved in providing services for them, have a duty to safeguard and promote their welfare.

The Childrens Workforce Development Council (CWDC) has developed an e-learning tool and comprehensive safer recruitment guidance for the children and young people’s workforce.  Alongside this training they are hosting online training that was developed by the National College (formerly NCSL) for the education sector.

For more information and resources, and to take the safer recruitment training please visit the CWDC Safer Recruitment website.

BME Cultural and Religious & Equality and Diversity Training

As local and national government are ensuring that more work is carried out either through partnership or procurement, greater emphasis will be given on how much we understand about equality and diversity and how much can we show we are incorporating it within our organisations as a working document and not just a policy.

Take advantage of free training and consultancy advice from Gulbag Singh at SUSTAiN to learn more about action planning your Equality & Diversity policy.

Gulbag would also like to hear from anyone who can offer free training or advice in the other strands of equality (gender, age, sexuality and also socio-economics).

LSCB 2010 Conference

LSCB 2010 conference. This free conference is scheduled to take place on Monday 27th September 2010 at the Bridge, Shirley

First Aid

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require the provision of adequate and appropriate first-aid equipment, facilities and people so that employees and volunteers can be given immediate help if they are injured or taken ill.  Workplaces with less than 25 people should have at least one “appointed person”, whose role includes looking after first-aid equipment and facilities and calling the emergency services when required. First aid training for “Appointed persons” is not mandatory, though the HSE approved one day course “Emergency First Aid at Work” is recommended to equip people to do the job.

SUSTAiN is working with an approved training provider to run an “Emergency First Aid at Work” course in April. Cost will depend upon numbers but is expected to be around £50-60 per person.

Core course contents:

  • First Aid kits
  • Basic Hygiene/Use of Barriers
  • Recovery positions
  • Dealing with the unconscious casualty
  • Seizures
  • Cardio pulmonary resuscitation
  • Shock
  • Wounds/Bleeding/Minor injuries
  • Choking
  • Record keeping

Please contact us on 0121 711 3148 or via enquiries@solihull-sustain.org.uk if you are interested.
