Nomination for England Basketball John Sage Community Coach Award 2009
Doug Poultney is founder, head coach and administrator of Arden Basketball Club, based in Knowle. He has dedicated 25 years volunteering; offering holistic basketball opportunities and also mentoring a number of local coaches.
It is great to see Doug gaining recognition for his time, efforts philosophy and contribution to basketball locally, regionally and nationally.
Presented by John Collins M.B.E – Director of Basketball Moulton College.

What is the Sports Council?
Solihull Sports Council supports and represents Solihull sport. It helps voluntary sports organisations by providing:
- information on sports facilities
- access to funding opportunities
- support to volunteers
- training for coaches, referees and umpires
- advice on first aid, child protection and other important areas related to sports clubs
- opportunities where groups can work together to avoid overlaps and maximise the resources available
The Sports Council also represents the opinions of local sporting organisations to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council and advises on the planning of new sports facilities and activities.
What is SUSTAiN?
Solihull SUSTAiN provides free support services and development to all types of voluntary organisations operating in the borough. We can help your group to:
- promote itself better
- recruit and retain more volunteers
- get support from local businesses
- find ways of reaching out to more parts of the community
